Danske Sampo Pankin uuden verkkopankin Java-crapletti ja mahdolliset XSS-haavoittuvuudet herättävät keskustelua

March 26th, 2008  |  by Thomas Nybergh  |  published in in Finnish, internet, suomeksi, technology

Useful link: RSS feed listing new .fi domains, updated daily

March 24th, 2008  |  by Thomas Nybergh  |  published in in English, internet, link tips, notes, technology

Reading lists of new .fi domains granted by Ficora is a terrible waste of time for persons whose psyches don’t sort the notion of monitoring Finnish Internet businesses into some internal “fun” folder. I happen to enjoy following stuff like this, which is why this RSS feed with daily updates on new .fi domain registrations [...]

The Police threatens maintainers of Finnish anti-censorship mirrors

March 1st, 2008  |  by Thomas Nybergh  |  published in in English, internet, politics

A seemingly never ending series of absurd statements from officials continued yesterday, as Detective Chief Inspector Lars Henriksson from the National Bureau of Investigation commented the ongoing debate over Internet censorship in Finland. He threatened maintainers of mirrors of the wrongfully censored anti-censorship site lapsiporno.info (mirror) with possible legal actions. The censorship is made possible [...]

Internet “child porn” censorship in Finland

February 15th, 2008  |  by Thomas Nybergh  |  published in in English, internet, notes, politics, technology

The Finnish National Bureau of Investigation maintains a secret list of “child pornography” sites. Some major Finnish ISPs, although currently not required by law to do so, do block access to sites on this list.
The blocking, which is performed on the DNS level, has been criticized, especially since lapsiporno.info (“childporn.info”), a site discussing the practice [...]

Digiexpo 2007: failure and nonsense

November 10th, 2007  |  by Thomas Nybergh  |  published in in English, technology

Digiexpo (Helsinki), a yearly consumer electronics trade fair aimed towards consumers, was still, without any doubt complete idiocy when I went to check it out last weekend. I don’t know how failtastic electronics centered trade shows to which non-journalists are allowed are in other parts of the world, but this was sloppy enough to make [...]
