Creepy photoshopped father-son portraits

May 31st, 2008  |  by Thomas Nybergh  |  published in in English, internet, link tips

I hope manbabies.com proves to be too unhealthy for the human mind to become a longstanding mainstream webtard meme. Image borrowed from post #43. [via:kung fu grippe]

Google’s new favicon

May 30th, 2008  |  by Thomas Nybergh  |  published in in English, internet, technology

Google has a fugly new favicon.ico. I liked the old one because of its relative colorfulness, and I find it somewhat puzzling that they chose to use a gray gradient in the new version. (Image borrowed from Google Blogoscoped)

Swedish copyright lobby avoids precedent by paying file sharer’s fines and court costs

May 27th, 2008  |  by Thomas Nybergh  |  published in in English, internet, notes, politics

The Pirate Bay blog has a recent post where the author claims to have received insider knowledge on why a recent verdict from a Swedish district court (tingsrätt) wasn’t appealed against by the defendant, a file sharer. I quote a part of a translation of the text made by the third commenter on the original [...]

Finnish appeal court decision: breaking CSS illegal

May 26th, 2008  |  by Thomas Nybergh  |  published in in English, software, technology

Due to recent very unclear, confusing and freedom hating legislation prepared by corrupt and incompetent people and an appeal court decision from a couple of days back, it’s now criminal to break the not very functional CSS copy protection used on most commercial DVD-Video discs. Watching DVDs using GNU/Linux systems is thus not something well [...]

Google suspends Finnish Pirate Party related blog

May 25th, 2008  |  by Thomas Nybergh  |  published in in English, internet, notes, politics

The process of properly establishing the Finnish Pirate Party took a leap forward this weekend. A blog covering the party’s constitutive meeting in real time has however been suspended by Google/Blogspot. Xuenay, one of the party leaders writes the following on his personal blog: I just got back from the founding meeting of the Finnish [...]

Finnish journalists disguised themselves as priests and social workers at scene of school shooting

May 20th, 2008  |  by Thomas Nybergh  |  published in in English, internet, link tips, notes

Much nonsense has been written on the Internet regarding the school massacre in the small town of Jokela last November, but an aspect of great interest to me is how the media involved itself in the aftermath. As is common at scenes of human suffering all over the world, today’s news media for a moment [...]

Lolspeak fridge magnets

May 20th, 2008  |  by Thomas Nybergh  |  published in in English, internet, link tips

From the Non-allergenic lolcats dept.: Put last year’s mainstream Internet meme on your fridge… tomorrow! Non-US orders accepted.

File system expert from Sun posts “ZFS Pics” from meeting with Torvalds

May 19th, 2008  |  by Thomas Nybergh  |  published in in English, linux/unix, notes, technology

Something exciting may be going on. Jeff Bonwick, storage expert and leader of the ZFS team at Sun has posted pictures from a seemingly informal meeting with Linus Torvalds on his blog. Sr Program Manager at Sun, Jim Grisanzio also links to the pictures in a blog post of his own titled “ZFS Pics“. Does [...]

Brazilian ads reflect understanding of Money

May 18th, 2008  |  by Thomas Nybergh  |  published in in English, link tips, notes, politics

These money themed ads made by JWT for the Brazilian business newspaper Gazeta Mercantil are among the better marketing I’ve seen lately. I approve of their message. Images found at I Believe in Advertising. Click on the images to view them in full size (there are some thoughtful details just waiting to be spotted). [via:Gothamist, [...]

MUTO – a strange wall paint animation short film

May 17th, 2008  |  by Thomas Nybergh  |  published in in English, internet, link tips, movies

I found some properly entertaining use of paint on human built structures in the following short film. I recommend watching this odd and well done little movie titled MUTO using Vimeo’s full screen capabilities (embedded flash from vimeo.com below). More info about the piece is available on the publisher’s own site and on the video’s [...]
