A recent decision by a court in Salo (link target is in Finnish), which implies that it’s illegal to use open Wi-Fi-networks without permission, is yet another fine example of the asshattery and uninformed lack of reasoning that automatically appears when anything related to information technology is on the agenda in today’s society under its [...]

Reading lists of new .fi domains granted by Ficora is a terrible waste of time for persons whose psyches don’t sort the notion of monitoring Finnish Internet businesses into some internal “fun” folder. I happen to enjoy following stuff like this, which is why this RSS feed with daily updates on new .fi domain registrations [...]

Late last month, the Debian GNU/Linux project announced that security patch support for the old stable release, 3.1 (codename Sarge), will end on the last day of March. Many people will be using servers, integrated and other special systems with Sarge for a long time to come, without applying any patches, and I’m afraid I’ll [...]

Under onsdagen [...]

The Finnish National Bureau of Investigation maintains a secret list of “child pornography” sites. Some major Finnish ISPs, although currently not required by law to do so, do block access to sites on this list.
The blocking, which is performed on the DNS level, has been criticized, especially since lapsiporno.info (”childporn.info”), a site discussing the practice [...]

As I was setting up my sister’s website I had one of those “How on earth did I manage to miss this?” moments: namely, the use of custom domains has been supported in free Feedburner accounts since early July this year. This is yet another example of how the Google empire is taking over the [...]
